To a solution of 6-fluoro-2-(5-hyroxymethyl-pyridin-3-yl)-3,3-dimethyl-2,3-dihydro-isoindol-1-one (52 mg) in DCM (10 mL) was added thionyl chloride (0.14 mL, 1.9 mmol) slowly at 0° C. After the addition, the reaction mixture was stirred at 2-5° C. for 0.5 hour before it was poured into satd. aq. NaHCO3 solution (10 mL) and extracted with DCM (2×15 mL). The combined organic layers were washed with brine, dried over anhy. Na2SO4, filtered and concentrated in vacuo to give a crude product (58 mg 100%) as light yellowish solid. MS: 322.1 (M+H+).
