Reaction Steps

To a solution of 224 (1.5 g, 4.1 mmol) and THF/acetone (24 mL, 5:1) was added NaI (3.1 g, 20 mmol) and the reaction was stirred at RT overnight. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with EtOAc. The combined organic fractions were dried (MgSO4), filtered, and concentrated in vacuo to afford 1.6 g (98%) of (S)-tert-butyl 1-(3-chloro-4-fluorophenyl)-2-iodoethylcarbamate which was used without additional purification.
