β-hydroxy-α-hydrazino ester (6B) (465 mg, 1.0 mmol) was added to 25 mL MeOH, then 3.0 eq of NaBH4 (114 mg, 3.0 mmol) was added every 15 min until the starting material was consumed as indicated by TLC. The reaction was quenched with saturated NH4Cl (aq.), extracted with EtOAc, and the combined extracts were washed with brine, dried over anhydrous Na2SO4, and the solvent was removed in vacuo. Purification by chromatography on silica gel to afford the desired product as a white solid (83%) (Kim et al., Tetrahedron 2010, 66, 3995).
