1-{5-[1-(Cyclopropylmethyl)-4-(trifluoromethyl)-1H-benzotriazol-5-yl]-6-fluoropyridin-2-yl}ethane-1,2-diol (32 mg, 0.081 mmol) was dissolved in acetonitrile (1 ml) and deionized water (0.5 mL), cooled to 0° C. and treated with sodium periodate (19 mg, 0.089 mmol, 1.1 equiv). The ice bath was removed and the mixture was warmed to ambient temperature and stirred for 1 hour, which was diluted with ethyl acetate (30 mL) and washed with sodium bicarbonate (2×15 mL, aqueous saturated). The combined organic extracts were dried with sodium sulfate, filtered and concentrated in vacuo, providing the titled compound.
