After two hours at reflux, the reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give the single enantiomer #102 (175 mg, 84% over two steps) as a light-colored solid. LC-MS: m/z 192.3 [M+H+], retention time=0.80 minutes; GC-MS: m/z 192 [M+H+], retention time=3.206 minutes; 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD) δ 7.24-7.33 (m, 2H), 7.11-7.18 (m, 2H), 4.40 (d, J=6.9 Hz, 1H), 3.99-4.05 (m, 1H), 3.78 (s, 3H), 3.46 (dd, J=14.8, 5.4 Hz, 1H), 3.23 (dd, J=14.8, 2.5 Hz, 1H).
