A mixture of ethyl {3-[1-(tetrahydro-2H-pyran-2-yl)-1H-pyrazol-4-yl]phenyl}acetate (160 g, 0.50 mol) in MeOH/HCl (800 mL) was stirred at room temperature for 3 hours. The mixture was concentrated under reduced pressure and washed with Et2O (300 mL) to afford ethyl [3-(1H-pyrazol-4-yl)phenyl]acetate as a solid.
