Reaction Steps
Benzyl 4-chloro-2-cyclopropyl-7,8-dihydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine-6(5H)-carboxylate, which was made using the general route described in footnote 14, was reacted with ethylmagnesium bromide under [1,2-bis(diphenylphosphino)ethane]dichloronickel(II) catalysis. Upon deprotection, the requisite 2-cyclopropyl-4-ethyl-5,6,7,8-tetrahydropyrido[4,3-d]pyrimidine was isolated.
