Reaction Steps
To a solution of (S)-proline methyl ester hydrochloride salt (2.5 g, 15.2 mmol) in DCM (20 mL) was added pyridine (2.6 mL, 33 mmol) and 4-nitrobenzenesulfonyl chloride (3.06 g, 13.8 mmol) at 0° C. The resulting mixture was stirred at room temperature for 18 h and then diluted with EtOAc (100 mL). The organic phase was washed with 1 N HCl (20 mL), brine (20 mL) and dried over MgSO4. The mixture was filtered and the solvent was removed in vacuo to give a crude yellow solid that was used in the next step without further purification.
