Procedure

56 ml of thionyl chloride, 28 g of 6-chloro-1,4-benzodioxane-5-carboxylic acid were introduced into a 250 ml balloon flask provided with a stirrer, a condenser and a thermometer. The mixture was heated at the reflux temperature for 30 minutes. The excess of thionyl chloride was removed by distillation under reduced pressure. 28.5 g of 6-chloro-1,4-benzodioxane-5-carbonyl chloride were obtained (M.P.: 50° C.; yield: 93%).
