2.0 g of N-benzyloxycarbonyl-α-(3,4-dimethoxyphenethylaminomethyl)-4-palmitoyloxybenzylalcohol were dissolved in 40 ml of methanol, and 0.4 g of 10% palladium-carbon was added thereto. The mixture was shaken at room temperature in hydrogen atmosphere for one hour under atmospheric pressure. The reaction mixture was filtered to remove the catalyst, and the filtrate was evaporated to remove solvent. The residue thus obtained was recrystallized from methanol. 1.8 g of α-(3,4-dimethoxyphenethylaminomethyl)-4-palmitoyloxybenzylalcohol were obtained as colorless needles.
