A stirred mixture of 0.59 g. (0.002 mole) of 1-ethyl-1,2-dihydro-4-chloro-7-methyl-2-oxo-1,8-naphthyridine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (Example 30), 0.17 g. (0.002 mole) of morpholine and 0.2 g. (0.002 mole) of sodium carbonate in 20 ml. of ethanol was heated under reflux for 4 hours. The mixture was filtered and the filtrate was diluted with water to the cloudy point. The precipitate which formed was collected, air dried and was recrystallized from heptane to afford 0.2 g. of product, m.p. 129°-131° C.
