Reaction Steps

4-Chloro-6,7-dimethoxyquinoline (1.00 g) and 5-chloro-2-hydroxybenzophenone (1.46 g) were stirred at 170° C. for one hr, and the reaction solution was cooled to room temperature. Chloroform was then added to the reaction solution, and separation was carried out with a 10% aqueous sodium hydroxide solution. The organic layer was washed with a saturated aqueous sodium hydrogencarbonate solution and saturated brine and was dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate. The solvent was removed therefrom by distillation under the reduced pressure, and the residue was purified by column chromatography on silica gel using hexane-acetone. Thereafter, 10% hydrochloric acid-methanol (10 ml) was added to the product, followed by concentration. The concentrate was suspended in ether, and the suspension was filtered to give the title compound (225 mg, yield 11%).
