A mixture of 8-[2,6-dichloro-3-[N-(4-ethoxycarbonylcinnamoylglycyl)-N-methylamino]benzyloxy]-4-(imidazol-1-yl)-2-methylquinoline (64 mg), 1N sodium hydroxide solution (0.12 ml) in ethanol was stirred for 4 hours at 60° C. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and water was added to the residue. The solution was washed with diethyl ether, and the aqueous layer was adjusted to pH 5 with 1N hydrochloric acid. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and washed with water and diethyl ether to give 8-[3-[N-(4-carboxycinnamoylglycyl)-N-methylamino]-2,6-dichlorobenzyloxy]-4-(imidazol-1-yl)-2-methylquinoline (44 mg) as amorphous powder.
