Procedure

Following general procedure H using 4-[isopropyl-(3,3,7-trimethyl-2,3-dihydro-benzofuran-5-yl)-amino]-benzoic acid ethyl ester (Compound 37, 0.08, 0.21 mmol) and 2.5 mL of 4M potassium hydroxide solution in 4 mL of ethanol, the title compound (0.055 g, 77%) was obtained as an off-white solid. 1H NMR (300 MHz, CDCl3): δ 7.87 (d, 2H, J=8.9 Hz), 6.69 (d, 1H, J=2.0 Hz), 6.66 (d, 1H, J=2.0 Hz), 6.52 (d, 2H, J=9.1 Hz), 4.36(heptet, 1H, J=6.5 Hz), 4.32 (s, 2H), 2.23(s, 3H), 1.35 (s, 6H), 1.17 (d, 6H, J=6.5 Hz).
