Procedure
200 g of methyl 2-n-octylacetoacetate and 94 g of 3(5)-amino-5(3)-methylpyrazole in 400 ml of n-butanol are refluxed for 5 hours. The mixture is cooled, and the product is filtered off under suction, washed with cold methanol and dried under reduced pressure at 60° C. to give 191 g of 7-hydroxy-2,5-dimethyl-6-n-octylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine of melting point 199° C.
