Procedure
A solution of 1-{[4-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)-3-ethoxycarbonyl-5-methoxycarbonyl-6-methyl-1,4-dihydropyrid-2-yl]methoxy}acetone (0.46 g) and sodium borohydride (0.10 g) in ethanol (40 ml) was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours. The solution was evaporated and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed three times with water. The organic layer was dried over MgSO4 and evaporated. The residue was crystallised from diethyl ether/hexane to give the title compound (0.20 g), m.p. 110°-113°.
