Procedure

A solution of the compound of example 16 (0.41 g, 0.92 mmole) in CH2Cl2 (9.2 mL) was stirred under N2 at -78° C. as a solution of BBr3 (0.37 mL, 3.9 mmole) in 2.1 mL of CH2Cl2 was added dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred for 1 hour at -78° C., 21/4 hr at 0°, and 21/4 hr at room temperature, then was cooled again to -78° as MeOH (7.3 mL) was added slowly. The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature overnight. The precipitate was filtered, washed with Et2O, and dried (in-vacuo) to yield 0.30 g light yellow powder; mp 290°; M+ 338.
