Procedure

N-(4,6-Dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl) N'-methoxyguanidine (9.75 g) was a dissolved in pyridine (200 ml), and 2-methoxysulfonylbenzenesulfonyl chloride (13.5 g) was added to the solution. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 2 days. The reaction mixture was poured into water, and extracted with methylene chloride. The organic layer was washed with a 1N aqueous solution of hydrochloric acid, and dried over anhydrous sodium sulfate. Methylene chloride was evaporated under reduced pressure, and the residue was recrystallized from methanol to give 10 g of the desired N-(4,6-dimethylpyrimidin-2-yl) N'-(2-methoxysulfonylbenzenesulfonyl) N"-methoxyguanidine represented by the following formula. mp. 130°-138° C. ##STR21##
