Procedure

1.0 g of Ethyl-6-[p-[4-(1-imidazolyl)-butyramido]-phenoxy]-2,2-dimethylhexanoate obtained from EXAMPLE 35 was stirred in 10 ml of methanol and 10 ml of 1N-aqueous sodium hydroxide solution at 40° C. for 16 hours. Ethanol was removed from the reaction mixture. The resulting mixture was washed with chloroform and then neutralized with 10 ml of 1N-aqueous hydrochloric acid solution. The precipitated crystals were collected by filtration, and recrystallized from 2-propanol to give 6-[p-[4-(1-imidazolyl)butyramido]phenoxy]-2,2-dimethyl hexanoic acid, as white crystals.
