To a 5 liter flask equipped with a stirrer, condenser, thermometer and dropping funnel was charged 604 g. (4.28 moles) epibromohydrin and 2150 ml. of ethyleneglycol dimethylether. To this solution was added, over a half hour period, 263.5 g. (2.14 moles) potassium pyrrolidone. The mixture was stirred 48 hours at 25° C. Potassium bromide was removed by filtration and the product distilled. The fraction boiling at 87° to 100° at 0.07 to 0.1 mm Hg was collected as 201.8 g. of product (67% of Theory) having a purity of 93% analyzed by gas chromatography.
