Using the general procedure described in Example 6 the dianion derived from the product of Example 1 (0.419 g; 1.16 mmol) was alkylated with tert-butyl 2-(4-bromomethylphenyl)benzoate. The crude reaction mixture was partitioned between EtOAc and 10% aqueous NaHSO4, separated dried and evaporated. The residue was purified on a silica gel flash chromatography eluted with CHCl3 -MeOH--NH4OH (80:15:1). Evaporation of the purified fractions and drying in vacuo afforded 0.501 g (69%) of the title compound.
