Dissolved 4-(10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-yl)-1-methyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine (0.80 g, 2.8 mmol) in 25 mL of methanol, and added 1 mL of iodomethane. Refluxed for 1 hour. Cooled to room temperature, and evaporated. Triturated solid with 1:2 acetonitrile:ether to give 1.1 g (92% yield) of 4-(10,11-dihydro-5H-dibenzo[a,d]cyclohepten-5-yl)-1,1-dimethyl-1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridinium iodide as a cream solid.
