Reaction Steps
A solution of 1-(2-propyl)-1,5-benzodiazepine-2,4-dione (0.55 g, 0.0025 mole) in N,N-dimethylformamide (5 mL) at room temperature was treated with cesium carbonate (1.64 g, 0.005 mole) and trifluoroethyl iodide (1.06g, 0.005 mole), and heated to 80° C. for 2 hours. The reaction was cooled to room temperature and poured into a solution of saturated sodium hydrogen carbonate (100 mL) and extracted with ethyl acetate (3×50 mL). The organic layers were combined, dried over anhydrous magnesium sulfate, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was chromatographed on silica gel eluting with 1:1 ethyl acetate/hexane to give 440 mg of product.
