cis-4-Benzyloxycarbonylamino-2-methyl-2,3,4,6,7,8-hexahydro-cyclopenta[g]quinoline-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (Example 1C) (500 mg), 10% palladium on carbon (150 mg), and a mixture of ethanol-cyclohexene (1:1, 50 mL) was heated at reflux for 2 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, filtered through Celite®, and concentrated in vacuo. Purification by silica gel chromatography using 5% methanol/ethyl acetate afforded the title product (350 mg). MS m/z 258 (M+−16); 1H NMR (CDCl3) δ 1.1 (d, 3H), 1.3 (t, 3H), 2.1 (m, 2H), 2.4 (m, 1H), 4.2 (m, 2H), 4.5 (m, 1H), 3.8 (dd, 1H), 7.2 (s, 2H).
