Reaction Steps

66 mg of sodium hydride (66% in mineral oil) are added to a solution of 0.16 g of phenol in 15 ml of dimethylformamide. After 30 minutes' stirring at ambient temperature, 0.68 g of 6-benzyl-2-bromomethyl-7-cyclopentyl-4-ethyl-imidazo[4,5-e]-s-triazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidin-5-one are added. The mixture is stirred at elevated temperature (about 100° C.) until the reaction is complete (about 8 hours). For working up, some water is added and then the solvent is distilled off in vacuo. The residue remaining is taken up in 20 ml of dichloromethane and 20 ml of water. After acidification with aqueous 1N HCl solution, the organic phase is separated off, washed with water and dried over magnesium sulphate. The solvent is distilled off and the residue remaining is recrystallised from diethyl ether. 0.6 g of the title compound remain, pure enough to be used in the subsequent reactions.
