A solution of 1-[(3aR,4R,6R,6aR)-6-methoxy-2,2-dimethyltetrahydrofuro[3,4-d][1,3]dioxol-4-yl]pent-1-yn-3-ol (1.3 g) in dichloromethane (100 ml) was added to a stirred suspension of manganese dioxide (60 g) in dichloromethane at 0° C. The mixture was stirred at 0° C. for 3 h, filtered through magnesium sulphate (50 g) and the solvent removed in vacuo to give the title compound as a colourless oil (550 mg).
