A solution of 260 mg (0.85 mmol) of isopropyl 4-(2-bromoacetyl)-5-methylthiophene-2-carboxylate was reacted with 65 mg (0.85 mmol) of thiourea in a manner similar to Example 8, step (a) to give isopropyl 4-(2-amino(1,3-thiazol-4-yl))-5-methylthiophene-2-carboxylate (257 mg, quantitive yield) as a white solid. 1H-NMR (DMSO-d6; 300 MHz) δ7.90 (s, 1H), 6.93 (s, 1H), 5.09 (septet, 1H, J=6.2 Hz), 2.61 (s, 3H), 1.29 (d, 6H, J=6.2 Hz).
