Reaction Steps

To a solution of 5,6,7,8-tetrahydro-8-oxo-isoquinoline (850 mg) in pyridine (10 ml) was added hydroxylamine hydrochloride (803 mg), and the mixture was stirred at room temperature for 15 hours. The reaction mixture was concentrated in vacuo, and the residue was dissolved in ethyl acetate and washed with saturated aqueous sodium hydrogen-carbonate solution and brine. Evaporation of the dried (Na2SO4) organic layer gave 8-hydroxyimino-5,6,7,8-tetrahydroisoquinoline (970 mg).
