Procedure

Following General Procedure J and using 3,5-di(trifluoromethyl)aniline (Aldrich) and isobutyl R-(+)-lactate (Aldrich), N-[3,5-di(trifluoromethyl)phenyl]-L-alanine isobutyl ester was prepared as an oil. The reaction was monitored by silica gel tic (Rf=0.38 in 10% EtOAc/hexanes). Purification was by preparative plate thin layer chromatography using 10% EtOAc/hexanes as the eluant.
