Reaction Steps

A mixture of 1.25 g (2.67 mmol) of the preceding ester and 3.21 ml of 1 N KOH in 15 ml of tetrahydrofuran was stirred at room temperature overnight. The mixture was filtered and the solid washed with diethyl ether and ethyl acetate to give 0.5 g of potassium 7-{methyl-[4-(4-pyridinyloxy)benzene-sulfonyl]amino}-2-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylate. A 0.15 g sample of the preceding compound was dissolved in water and the pH adjusted to pH 6 with 2 N citric acid. The mixture was filtered to give 0.12 g of 7-{methyl-[4-(4-pyridinyloxy)benzenesulfonyl]amino}-2-methylpyrazolo[1,5-a]pyrimidine-6-carboxylic acid as a white solid, m.p. 246-248° C.
