(3S,4S)-4-Benzyl-3,4-dihydroxy-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid benzyl ester 8.2 g (24 mmol) was dissolved in 250 ml EtOH and hydrogenated in the presence of 1.1 g Pd/C, (10%)under atmospheric pressure at r.t. After 16 hours the reaction was complete and the catalyst was filtered off and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give 5.5 g (quant., ˜95% purity) (3S,4S)-4-Benzyl-3,4-dihydroxy-piperidine as an oil.
