N-(7-Formylisoquinolinyl)benzamide was prepared from 37e using the procedure described for 1f but was not purified using column chromatography. The crude aldehyde was transformed into the title compound using the procedure described for 1g followed by purification using column chromatography on silica gel (toluene/ethyl acetate: 2/1). M.p. 137.5-139.0° C.
