A suspension of 6-benzyloxy-7-fluoro-2-iodo-3-quinolinecarbaldehyde (obtained according to 1.e, 13 g, 32 mmol) in methanol (100 ml) is treated with sodium borohydride (1.85 g, 48 mmol). After 1 hour of reaction, the reaction medium is concentrated under reduced pressure then taken up with water, filtered, washed with water and ethanol in order to produce, after drying under reduced pressure, 10 g (76%) of a white solid, m.p. 188° C.
