By a similar procedure as described in Example 1 using 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid, hydrochloride (2.2 g, 10 mmol) and 1-(naphth-1-yl)ethylamine (1.6 g, 10 mmol), 4,5,6,7-tetrahydro-1H-benzimidazole-5-carboxylic acid (naphth-1-ylmethyl)amide (2.0 g, 67%) was obtained. The free base was dissolved in 1 N hydrochloric acid (5 ml) and the mixture was diluted with H2O (10 ml). On standing a precipitate was formed which was isolated and dried to give the title compound (0.95 g).
