Reaction Steps
4-Phenoxybutanoic acid (1.05 g, 5.8 mmol, Lancaster) and triethylamine (2.4 mL, 17.4 mmol) in anhydrous CH2Cl2 (25 mL) were treated with pivaloyl chloride (0.75 mL, 6.1 mmol) at 0° C. After stirring for 1 hour, the reaction mixture was treated with (1S)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1-naphthalenylamine (1.0 mL, 6.9 mmol) and the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to room temperature and stir for 16 hours. The reaction mixture was diluted with CH2Cl2, washed with 1N HCl, saturated NaHCO3, brine, dried (Na2SO4), filtered and the filtrate concentrated under reduced pressure. The residue was purified by flash chromatography (silica gel, 40% ethyl acetate/hexanes) to provide the title compound as a colorless oil (2.07 g).
