3-O-(α-D-Galactopyranosyl)-1,2-di-O-tetradecyl-Sn-glycerol (3) (647 mg) was dissolved in pyridine (5 ml). Trityl chloride (558 mg) was added to the solution. The mixture was stirred at 60° C. for 7 hours and concentrated in vacuo. The residue was subjected to column chromatography (SiO2, C-300, 50 g) and eluted with 5% methanol-containing chloroform to obtain 3-O-(6-O-trityl-α-D-galactopyranosyl)-1,2-di-O-tetradecyl-Sn-glycerol (4) (758 mg, 85.2%).
