Reaction Steps

To a solution of 4-hydroxy-2-methyl-3-(2-methyl-1,3,4-oxadiazol-5-yl)-1,2-benzothiazine 1,1-dioxide, (0.155 g) in pyridine (0.5 ml) was added benzoyl chloride (0.63 ml) at 5°-10° C. After being stirred at room temperature for 1 hour, the mixture was diluted with dichloromethane, washed successively with dilute HCl, water and dilute sodium bicarbonate solution and dried over sodium sulfate to give, on concentration, crude solids 0.213 g. Recrystallization from toluene gave the title compound 0.156 g (74%).
