1.85 g of 5-amino-2-(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethylphenyl)-3-methylindole was dissolved in 20 ml of pyridine, and 1.51 g of p-toluenesulfonyl chloride was added. The mixture was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour. Ethyl acetate was added to the reaction mixture, and the mixture was washed with 5% hydrochloric acid and water, and dried. The solvent was evaporated, and the residue was purified by silica gel column chromatography to give 2-(4-methoxy-3,5-dimethylphenyl)-3-methyl-5-p-toluenesulfonylaminoindole.
