Reaction Steps
In a mixed solvent consisting of 5 ml of pyridine and 20 ml of dichloromethane is dissolved 2.35 g of 3-[(2-hydroxy-3-octadecyloxypropyl)sulfonyl]propyltrimethylammonium mesylate, to which 2.5 ml of diketene is added dropwise with stirring under ice cooling. Thereafter, the mixture is stirred at room temperature for 5 hours, to which is then added 3 ml of methanol. The solvent is distilled off under reduced pressure to leave a residue which in turn is purified by silica gel column chromatography to yield 0.5 g of the captioned compound.
