Reaction Steps
A solution of 22 g of p-(2-methyl-4-n-propylcyclohexyl)benzamide [obtainable from the acid chloride with NH3 ; the corresponding acid being obtainable by reacting phenylmagnesium bromide with 2-methyl-4-n-propylcyclohexanone (Example 1), elimination of water, hydrogenation of the resulting double bond, Friedel-Crafts acylation with acetyl chloride and subsequent haloform reaction] in 500 ml of DMF has added to it dropwise with stirring at 50° 65 g of POCl3. After further stirring for one hour the batch is poured onto ice and is worked up as customary to give p-(2-methyl-4-n-propylcyclohexyl)-benzonitrile.
