Reaction Steps

To a solution of 2,2-dimethyl-6-(triphenylmethylamino)-3-(N-methyl-N-benzylcarbamoyl)penam (200 mg) in acetone (2 mL) was added p-toluenesulfonic acid monohydrate (70 mg). The solution was stirred at room temperature for 11/2 hours and the acetone was removed in vacuo. Trituration of the residue with ether and vacuum drying gave partially impure 6-Amino-2,2-dimethyl-3-(N-methyl-N-benzylcarbamoyl)penam p-toluenesulfonic acid salt (200 mg).
