If diethyl 1-dimethylamino-1,3-butadiene-2,4-dicarboxylate and ammonia are used as starting substances for the process according to the invention in variant (b), the diethyl 1-amino-1,3-butadiene-2,4-dicarboxylate formed is isolated and this ester is reacted further with sodium ethylate, the reaction sequence can be outlined by the following equation: ##STR6##
