Reaction Steps

To 2,4,5-trifluoro-3-methyl-6-nitro-N-acetyl-aniline (2.08 g) are added ethanol (30 ml) and 10% hydrochloric acid (30 ml) and the mixture is refluxed for 3 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture is poured into ice-water, neutralized with potassium carbonate, extracted with dichloromethane and the extract is dried. The solvent is distilled off under reduced pressure to give 2,4,5-trifluoro-3-methyl-6-nitroaniline (2.05 g), as brown crystals.
