To a suspension of N-[2-[4-(6-fluoro-1,2-benzisoxazol-3-yl)-1-piperidinyl]ethyl]phthalimide (7.8 g, 19.8 mmol) in methanol (250 ml) and DCM (30 ml) was added NaBH4 (1.7 g, 45.5 mmol) at room temperature under nitrogen. After stirring for 0.5 hours the homogeneous reaction mixture was concentrated. The remaining solid was purified on a flash chromatography column (SiO2, 1:1 EtOAc/DCM, increased to 10% MeOH) to give 7.0 g (90%) of the desired product as a solid which was recrystallized from EtOAc, m.p.=172°-17320 C.
