Reaction Steps
A mixture of 2-bromo-3-[2-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolyl-methoxy)-5-pyridyl]propionate (4.00 g), 1,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]-7-undecene (1.41 g) and toluene (80 ml) was stirred 2 hours at 90°-100° C. The reaction mixture was poured into water and extracted with ethyl acetate. The ethyl acetate layer was washed with water and dried (MgSO4), then the solvent was distilled off under reduced pressure. The residual oily product was subjected to a silica gel chromatography. From the fractions eluted with ethyl acetate-hexane (1:3, v/v) was obtained methyl (E)-3-[2-(5-methyl-2-phenyl-4-oxazolylmethoxy)-5-pyridyl]acrylate (2.71 g, 83%). Recrystallization from diethyl ether-isopropyl ether gave colorless prisms, m.p. 116°-117° C.
