A solution of citric acid (576 mg) in methanol (70 ml) was added to (2β,3α,5α)-3-hydroxy-2-(2,2-dimethyl-4-thiomorpholinyl)pregnane-11,20-dione (1.39 g). The mixture was warmed to effect solution and the solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give (2β,3α,5α)-3-hydroxy-2-(2,2-dimethyl-4-thiomorpholinyl)pregnane-11,20-dione 2-hydroxy-1,2,3-propanetricarboxylate (1:1) salt (1.96 g). [α]D +92.2° (c 0.5).
