Reaction Steps

2-(4-dimethyaminobenzyl)benzo[b]thiophene was prepared by the method of Example 47B with α-(2-benzo[b]thienyl)-4-dimethylaminobenzyl alcohol (7.5 mmoles, 2.1 g), triethylsilane (2.8 mmoles, 1.3 ml), CH2Cl2 (50 ml) and TFA (11.2 mmoles, 0.9 ml). Flash chromatography (10% ethyl acetate/hexanes) provided 1.5 g (73%--for two steps) of a white solid.
