To 2-amino-4-chloro-5-(2,3-dichlorophenyl)pyrimidine (6.73 gms) was added ethanolic ammonia (30 equiv. in 50 ml EtOH) and the mixture sealed in a Parr reaction vessel and heated to 125° C. for 38 hours. After cooling, the mixture was concentrated in vacuo and the residue mixed with 1N NaOH (75 ml), filtered, washed with water and dried in vacuo, 6.14 gms, mp. 208°-211° C.
