Reaction Steps
Dimethyl 2,3-dihydro-1H-pyrrolo[1,2-a]pyrrole-1,7-dicarboxylate (1.26 g, 5 mmol) and sodium hydroxide (1.00 g, 25 mmol) were heated in water (10 mL) at reflux for 1 hour. The resulting solution was cooled to 0° C. and acidified with hydrochloric acid (12 M) to pH 1. 2,3-Dihydro-1H-pyrrolo-[1,2-a]pyrrole-1,7-dicarboxylic acid (0.70 g, 71.4% yield) was collected by filtration and dried.
