To a solution of 6.7 g (0.037 mol) of 4-cyanophenylthiourea in 150 cm3 of 2-butanone, 13.1 g (0.092 mol) of methyl iodide are added. After 24 hours of contact at room temperature, the solid formed is filtered, washed with 2-butanone (2×20 cm3) then with ethyl ether (2×50 cm3), which makes it possible to obtain 9.2 g (yield 76%; melting point 212° C.) of N-(4-cyanophenyl)-S-methylisothiourea hydroiodide: ##STR16##
